Ingredients
6 cups peeled, sliced apples (about 6 medium apples, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease an 8x8-inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, toss apple slices with granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Spread evenly in prepared dish.
In a separate bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle crumb topping evenly over apples.
Bake for 40-45 minutes, until apples are tender and topping is golden brown. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Tips
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in oven or microwave.
For extra crunch, add 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts to the topping.
