Ingredients
6 cups peeled, sliced apples (about 6 medium apples, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Spread evenly in the prepared dish.
In a medium bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling around the edges.
Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Tips
For extra crunch, add 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts to the crumble topping.
Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
If using a deeper dish, increase baking time by 5-10 minutes.
