Ingredients
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
1 cup warm water (110°F)
1 teaspoon sugar
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for greasing
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup pizza sauce
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Optional toppings: pepperoni, sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, olives
Instructions
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water; let stand until foamy, about 5 minutes.
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and olive oil; mix until dough comes together.
Turn dough onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
Punch down dough; divide in half. On a floured surface, roll each half into a 12-inch circle.
Transfer dough to a lightly greased baking sheet or pizza peel dusted with cornmeal. Spread pizza sauce evenly, leaving a 1-inch border.
Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over sauce, then add desired toppings.
Bake for 12-15 minutes until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly. Let cool 5 minutes before slicing.
Tips
For a crispier crust, pre-bake the dough for 5 minutes before adding toppings.
Leftover pizza can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in a hot oven or skillet.
Feel free to experiment with different cheeses like provolone or parmesan.
