Ingredients
1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
4 slices American cheese
4 hamburger buns
4 leaves lettuce
4 slices tomato
4 slices red onion
4 tbsp ketchup
4 tbsp yellow mustard
4 tbsp mayonnaise
4 pickle spears
Instructions
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape into patties about 3/4-inch thick. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
Grill or pan-fry patties over medium-high heat for 4 minutes per side for medium, or to desired doneness. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty and cover to melt.
Toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a pan until lightly golden.
Assemble burgers: spread mayonnaise on the bottom bun, then add lettuce, tomato, onion, and the patty with cheese. Top with ketchup and mustard on the top bun. Serve with pickle spears on the side.
Tips
For best results, use ground beef with at least 20% fat.
Let patties rest for 2 minutes after cooking to retain juices.
Customize with bacon, avocado, or your favorite toppings.
