Ingredients
- 2 cups vodka (80 proof)
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 cups whole raw almonds
- 1 vanilla bean, split (or 2 tsp vanilla extract)
- 1 tsp almond extract
- 1/2 tsp orange zest (optional)
Instructions
- Place almonds in a clean glass jar. Pour vodka over almonds, seal, and let steep in a cool, dark place for 2 weeks, shaking every few days.
- After 2 weeks, strain the vodka through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl. Discard almonds.
- In a saucepan, combine water, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Heat over medium, stirring, until sugar dissolves. Let cool completely.
- Add the sugar syrup to the almond-infused vodka. Stir in vanilla bean (or extract), almond extract, and orange zest if using.
- Pour into a clean bottle or jar. Seal and let age for at least 1 week before serving for best flavor. Store at room temperature.
Tips
- For a smoother liqueur, age for 1 month or longer.
- Serve chilled as a digestif, or use in cocktails like Amaretto Sour.
- Store in a cool, dark place; keeps indefinitely.
