Ingredients
- 1 cup cold water
- 2 teaspoons finely ground Turkish coffee (or espresso grind)
- 2 teaspoons sugar (or to taste)
- 1 cardamom pod (optional)
Instructions
- Combine water, coffee, sugar, and cardamom pod (if using) in a small, narrow pot (cezve or ibrik). Stir gently to combine.
- Place the pot over low heat. Do not stir after this point.
- As the coffee heats, foam will begin to form on the surface. Just before it boils and rises, remove the pot from the heat.
- Spoon a little of the foam into each serving cup.
- Return the pot to the heat and bring to a boil again. Remove just before it overflows.
- Pour the coffee slowly into the cups, allowing the grounds to settle. Serve immediately.
Tips
- Use the highest quality, freshest coffee for best flavor.
- Customize sweetness: 1 teaspoon for mild, 2 for medium, 3 for sweet.
- Allow coffee to sit for a minute before drinking to let grounds settle.
- Traditionally served with a glass of water and a piece of Turkish delight.
