Ingredients
8 oz ground beef
3 cloves garlic, minced
2-3 Thai bird's eye chilies, minced (adjust to taste)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 tablespoon fish sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon oyster sauce
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 cup water
1 cup holy basil leaves (or Thai basil, firmly packed)
2 large eggs
Steamed jasmine rice, for serving
Fried egg (optional, for topping)
Instructions
In a small bowl, mix fish sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and water. Set aside.
Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add garlic and chilies, stir-fry for 15 seconds until fragrant.
Add ground beef and break it apart. Stir-fry until browned, about 3-4 minutes.
Pour in the sauce mixture and stir-fry for 1 minute until the sauce coats the beef.
Remove from heat and immediately stir in the basil leaves until wilted.
Serve over steamed jasmine rice, topped with a crispy fried egg if desired.
Tips
Use holy basil for authentic flavor; Thai basil is a good substitute.
Adjust chilies to your spice preference.
For extra flavor, add a splash of dark soy sauce for color.
Serve with cucumber slices and prik nam pla (fish sauce with chilies) on the side.
