1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning
1/2 cup water
8 small corn or flour tortillas (for tacos) or 4 large flour tortillas (for burritos)
1 cup shredded lettuce
1 cup diced tomatoes
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup salsa
Instructions
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Add garlic and cook 1 minute more.
Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat.
Stir in taco seasoning and water. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
Warm tortillas according to package directions.
For tacos: fill each tortilla with seasoned beef, then top with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, and salsa.
For burritos: place a large tortilla on a flat surface. Spoon beef down the center, then add toppings. Fold in the sides, then roll up tightly from the bottom.
Serve immediately.
Tips
For a lighter option, use ground turkey or chicken.
Store leftover beef in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Customize with additional toppings like guacamole, jalapeños, or black beans.
