Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- 6 black tea bags (like Lipton or Luzianne)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda (optional, to reduce bitterness)
- 1 lemon, sliced (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Remove from heat and add the tea bags. Steep for 10 minutes.
- Remove the tea bags, squeezing them gently. Stir in the sugar and baking soda (if using) until dissolved.
- Return the saucepan to medium heat and bring to a simmer. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly syrupy.
- Remove from heat and let cool completely. Transfer to a glass jar or bottle and refrigerate until ready to use.
- To serve, mix 1 part sweet tea mixer with 2 parts cold water and ice, or use in cocktails.
Tips
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- For a stronger tea flavor, use 8 tea bags.
- Use as a base for bourbon sweet tea: 2 oz bourbon, 4 oz sweet tea mixer, ice, and a lemon slice.
