Ingredients
1 cup long-grain white rice (such as jasmine or basmati)
1 1/2 cups water
1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)
Instructions
Place the rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear, about 1 minute. Drain well.
In a medium saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, combine the rinsed rice, water, and salt (if using).
Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18 minutes. Do not lift the lid.
Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork before serving.
Tips
For extra flavor, substitute water with chicken or vegetable broth.
Store leftover rice in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
To reheat, sprinkle with a little water and microwave covered for 1-2 minutes.
