Ingredients
1 lb spaghetti
1 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 large egg
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined; do not overwork.
Form mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs (about 16-20).
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add meatballs in batches and brown on all sides, about 5 minutes per batch. Transfer to a plate.
In the same skillet, add onion and cook until softened, about 4 minutes. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer.
Return meatballs to the skillet. Cover and simmer over low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package directions until al dente. Drain.
Serve spaghetti topped with meatballs and sauce. Garnish with extra Parmesan and parsley if desired.
Tips
For lighter meatballs, use a mix of ground beef and pork; avoid overmixing.
Sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 3 days; reheat gently.
Leftover meatballs and sauce can be frozen for up to 3 months.
