Ingredients
- 8 cups water, divided
- 6 family-size black tea bags (or 12 regular tea bags)
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon baking soda (optional, for clarity)
- Lemon slices, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil. Remove from heat and add tea bags and baking soda (if using). Steep for 10 minutes.
- Remove tea bags without squeezing them. Stir in sugar until completely dissolved.
- Pour the concentrated tea into a gallon-sized pitcher. Add the remaining 4 cups of cold water and stir well.
- Refrigerate until chilled, at least 1 hour. Serve over ice with lemon slices if desired.
Tips
- For a stronger tea, steep longer, but be careful not to over-steep as it can become bitter.
- Adjust sugar to taste; some prefer 1 to 2 cups.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
