Ingredients
1 lb pizza dough, store-bought or homemade
2 tbsp olive oil
2 Italian sausage links (about 6 oz each), casings removed
1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
1/2 small onion, thinly sliced
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
1/2 cup pizza sauce
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add sausage and cook, breaking into crumbles, until browned, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a plate.
In the same skillet, add remaining 1 tbsp olive oil. Add bell peppers and onion; cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Season with oregano and red pepper flakes.
On a floured surface, stretch or roll pizza dough into a 12-inch round. Transfer to a floured pizza peel or parchment-lined baking sheet.
Spread pizza sauce evenly over dough, leaving a 1-inch border. Top with mozzarella, cooked sausage, and pepper-onion mixture. Sprinkle with Parmesan.
Slide pizza onto preheated stone or place baking sheet in oven. Bake until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly, 12-15 minutes.
Let cool for 2 minutes, then garnish with basil if desired. Slice and serve.
Tips
For a crispier crust, preheat your baking sheet or pizza stone for at least 30 minutes.
Substitute turkey sausage for a lighter option.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in a 350°F oven.
