Ingredients
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt, plus more for garnish
2 cups vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup whole milk
Whipped cream, for topping
Instructions
Make the salted caramel sauce: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar, stirring constantly with a heatproof spatula, until it turns a deep amber color, about 5-7 minutes.
Remove from heat and immediately whisk in the butter until melted and smooth.
Slowly pour in the heavy cream while whisking continuously (the mixture will bubble up). Stir in the flaky sea salt. Let cool slightly.
In a blender, combine the vanilla ice cream, milk, and 3 tablespoons of the salted caramel sauce. Blend until smooth and creamy.
Divide the shake between two glasses. Drizzle additional caramel sauce over the top, and garnish with whipped cream and a pinch of flaky sea salt.
Serve immediately.
Tips
Store leftover caramel sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
For a thicker shake, use less milk or add more ice cream.
