Ingredients
1 lb (450g) ground beef
1 tbsp olive oil
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
Salt and pepper to taste
8 oz (225g) penne pasta
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente; drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess fat.
Add onion and garlic to the skillet; cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
Combine cooked pasta with the meat sauce in a large bowl. Transfer to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Top with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, until bubbly and cheese is melted and golden. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
Tips
For a lighter version, use ground turkey instead of beef.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
To reheat, cover with foil and bake at 350°F for 10-15 minutes.
