Ingredients
4 oz (113g) ground beef (80/20)
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp black pepper
1 slice American cheese
1 hamburger bun
1 tbsp butter, softened
Instructions
Divide the ground beef into a ball, then flatten into a patty about 4 inches wide and 3/4 inch thick. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
Heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook the patty for 3-4 minutes on the first side until a crust forms.
Flip the patty, immediately place the cheese slice on top, and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness.
While the patty cooks, split the bun and spread butter on the cut sides. Toast the bun in a separate pan or on the griddle until golden.
Assemble the burger: place the patty with cheese on the bottom bun, then top with the top bun. Serve immediately.
Tips
Use 80/20 ground beef for the best flavor and juiciness.
For a more authentic fast-food taste, press the patty thin and wide so it overhangs the bun slightly.
To keep the burger plain, avoid adding any condiments, lettuce, tomato, or onions.
