Ingredients
1.5 lbs (680g) ground beef (80/20 blend)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
4 slices American cheese
4 sesame seed hamburger buns
4 leaves iceberg lettuce
4 slices ripe tomato
8 dill pickle slices
1/2 cup finely chopped white onion
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp yellow mustard
1 tsp sweet pickle relish
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Instructions
Divide ground beef into 4 equal portions (6 oz each). Shape into patties slightly larger than the buns, about 3/4-inch thick. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, relish, and garlic powder to make the special sauce. Set aside.
Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness. In the last minute, place a slice of cheese on each patty and cover to melt.
Toast the buns on the skillet until golden, about 1 minute.
Spread special sauce on the bottom bun. Top with lettuce, tomato slice, cheese-topped patty, pickles, and chopped onion. Cover with top bun.
Serve immediately.
Tips
For a juicier patty, make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent doming.
Store leftover special sauce in the refrigerator for up to a week.
