Ingredients
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional)
Instructions
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are deeply caramelized, about 25-30 minutes. Let cool slightly.
In a medium bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir in caramelized onions.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld. Garnish with chives if desired before serving.
Tips
For a richer flavor, use Greek yogurt in place of some sour cream.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
