Ingredients
1/3 cup popcorn kernels
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon fine salt
1/4 teaspoon popcorn salt (or extra-fine salt)
Instructions
Place a large pot with a tight-fitting lid over medium-high heat. Add the vegetable oil and 3 popcorn kernels. Cover and wait until they pop.
Remove the pot from heat, remove the lid, and pour in the remaining popcorn kernels. Cover and let sit for 30 seconds.
Return the pot to medium-high heat. Shake the pot constantly as the popcorn pops. When popping slows to about 2 seconds between pops, remove from heat and pour into a large bowl.
Drizzle the melted butter over the popcorn while tossing to coat evenly.
Combine the fine salt and popcorn salt in a small bowl, then sprinkle over the popcorn while tossing. Serve immediately.
Tips
For extra movie-theater flavor, add a pinch of yellow food coloring to the melted butter.
Store leftover popcorn in an airtight container for up to 2 days; re-crisp in a 300°F oven for a few minutes.
