Ingredients
2 pounds sweet potatoes (about 3 medium), peeled and cubed
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup milk or heavy cream
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
Place sweet potato cubes in a large pot and cover with cold water by 1 inch. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium and simmer until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Drain sweet potatoes well and return to the pot. Let steam evaporate for 1 minute.
Add butter, milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mash with a potato masher or fork until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Serve warm, garnished with extra butter or a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired.
