Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 (15-ounce) container ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add onion and garlic to the skillet; cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, egg, and parsley. Stir in the cooled meat mixture until well blended.
- Use immediately as a filling for lasagna, or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Tips
- For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with 1 cup finely chopped mushrooms and 1 cup cooked spinach, squeezed dry.
- This filling can be frozen for up to 3 months; thaw overnight in the refrigerator before using.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano or basil for extra flavor.
