Ingredients
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
In a small saucepan, combine heavy cream, sugar, cocoa powder, butter, and salt.
Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until the mixture comes to a gentle boil and the sugar dissolves, about 3-4 minutes.
Reduce heat to low and simmer, whisking occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly, about 1-2 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Serve warm over ice cream or pudding. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Tips
For a thinner sauce, add an extra tablespoon of heavy cream.
Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stovetop before serving.
This sauce can also be used as a dip for fruit or cake.
