Ingredients
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
Instructions
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and bell peppers; cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and lightly browned, about 10 minutes.
Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Stir in ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened and caramelized, about 10 minutes.
Remove from heat. Serve warm over grilled hot dogs or bratwurst.
Tips
For extra heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or sliced jalapeño.
