  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place taco shells on a baking sheet and warm in oven for 5 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Add garlic and cook 1 minute more.
  3. Add ground beef to skillet. Cook, breaking up meat with a spoon, until browned, about 5 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in taco seasoning and water. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 3 minutes.
  5. Remove taco shells from oven. Fill each shell with about 1/4 cup of the beef mixture.
  6. Top with lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream, and salsa if desired. Serve immediately.
