Ingredients
1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
4 hamburger buns
4 slices cheddar cheese
4 leaves lettuce
4 slices tomato
4 slices red onion
Ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise to taste
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined; do not overwork.
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties about 3/4-inch thick. Use your thumb to make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent bulging.
Preheat a grill or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grate or pan.
Cook patties for 4 minutes on the first side. Flip, then top each with a slice of cheese. Cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness (internal temp 160°F).
During the last minute, toast the buns cut-side down on the grill or in the pan.
Assemble burgers: place patty on bottom bun, add desired toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, condiments), and cover with top bun.
Tips
For extra flavor, add a splash of soy sauce or a pinch of smoked paprika to the meat mixture.
Let the patties rest for 5 minutes after cooking to redistribute juices.
