Ingredients
- 1/2 cup chicle gum base (or synthetic gum base pellets)
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon corn syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon glycerin (optional, for softness)
- 1/2 teaspoon citric acid (optional, for tang)
- Flavoring oil (e.g., peppermint, spearmint, or fruit flavor) to taste
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Place the gum base in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 15-second intervals until softened, about 45 seconds total.
- Add corn syrup, glycerin (if using), and citric acid (if using) to the softened gum base. Stir with a silicone spatula until combined.
- Add flavoring oil drop by drop, mixing well after each addition, until desired flavor strength is achieved.
- Knead the mixture on a surface dusted with powdered sugar until smooth and pliable, about 2 minutes.
- Roll the gum base into a log and cut into small pieces, or shape into pellets. Dust with powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
- Let the gum base rest at room temperature for at least 1 hour to set before chewing.
Tips
- Store gum base in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
- For a softer gum, add an extra 1/2 teaspoon of glycerin.
- Experiment with different flavor combinations like cinnamon or bubblegum.
