Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup hot water
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 12-cavity doughnut pan.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In another bowl, whisk eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Add to dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
Stir in hot water until batter is smooth (batter will be thin).
Fill each doughnut cavity about 2/3 full. Bake 10-12 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool in pan 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
For glaze: In a small saucepan, heat cream until simmering. Remove from heat, add chocolate chips, and let sit 1 minute. Stir until smooth.
Dip tops of cooled doughnuts into glaze, letting excess drip off. Place on rack to set, about 15 minutes.
Tips
Use a piping bag or zip-top bag with corner snipped to easily fill doughnut cavities.
Glaze can be reheated gently if it thickens.
Store doughnuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
