Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh or frozen fruit (e.g., strawberries, mango, or mixed berries)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
Instructions
- Combine fruit, sugar, and water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, until fruit is soft and sugar is dissolved.
- Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice. Let cool for 10 minutes.
- Pour mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl, pressing on solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard solids.
- Transfer syrup to a jar or bottle and refrigerate until cold, at least 1 hour.
- To make a slushie: combine 1/4 cup syrup with 1 cup ice in a blender. Blend until smooth. Adjust consistency with water or more ice as desired.
Tips
- Syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- For a lighter version, use 1/2 cup sugar or a sugar substitute.
- Try different fruit combinations like peach-mango or raspberry-lime.
