Ingredients
12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
Cut each mozzarella stick in half crosswise to make 24 pieces. Pat dry with paper towels.
Set up a breading station: Place flour in a shallow bowl. In another bowl, whisk together eggs and milk. In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Coat each cheese piece first in flour, shaking off excess, then dip in egg mixture, and finally coat with breadcrumb mixture. Press breadcrumbs to adhere. Place on a baking sheet.
Freeze the breaded cheese sticks for at least 1 hour (or up to 3 months) until solid. This prevents the cheese from leaking during frying.
Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
Fry the frozen mozzarella sticks in batches, without crowding, for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. Do not overcook or cheese will burst.
Drain on paper towels and serve immediately with marinara sauce.
Tips
For extra crunch, double bread by repeating the egg and breadcrumb steps.
Serve with warm marinara or ranch dressing.
Leftover sticks can be reheated in an air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes.
