Ingredients
1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
4 slices American cheese
4 hamburger buns
4 leaves lettuce
4 slices tomato
4 slices onion (optional)
4 tbsp ketchup
4 tbsp mustard
4 tbsp mayonnaise
4 pickle slices
Instructions
Divide ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape into patties slightly larger than the buns (they shrink). Season both sides with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 3-4 minutes per side for medium doneness. In the last minute, top each patty with a slice of cheese and cover to melt.
Toast the buns cut-side down in the skillet for about 1 minute until golden.
Assemble burgers: spread mayonnaise on bottom bun, add lettuce, tomato, onion (if using), then the patty with cheese. Top with ketchup, mustard, and pickles. Close with top bun.
Serve immediately with fries or your favorite sides.
Tips
For extra juiciness, make a small indent in the center of each patty before cooking.
Customize with bacon, jalapeños, or special sauce.
Leftover patties can be refrigerated and reheated in a skillet.
