Ingredients
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat. Add 3 kernels and cover. When they pop, the oil is ready.
- Add remaining kernels in an even layer. Sprinkle sugar and salt over the kernels. Immediately cover and shake the pot to distribute.
- Cook, shaking the pot frequently, until popping slows to about 2 seconds between pops. Remove from heat and let sit until popping stops.
- Pour popcorn into a large bowl, breaking up any large clumps. Let cool completely before serving to allow coating to crisp.
Tips
- Use a pot with a tight-fitting lid to prevent sugar from leaking out.
- Shake the pot constantly to prevent burning and ensure even coating.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
