  2. In a non-stick skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Place the bread slice (and the cut-out piece) in the skillet.
  3. Crack the egg directly into the hole in the bread. Cook until the egg white is set and the bottom is golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Carefully flip the bread and egg using a spatula. Cook for another 1-2 minutes for a runny yolk, or longer if desired.
  5. Season with salt and pepper. Serve immediately, with the cut-out piece on the side for dipping.
