Ingredients
2 sesame seed hamburger buns
4 slices American cheese
2 leaves lettuce
4 slices tomato
1/2 white onion, sliced into rings
4 dill pickle slices
1/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 pound ground beef (80/20), divided into 4 patties
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Preheat a grill or cast-iron skillet to high heat.
Season the 4 beef patties generously with salt and pepper.
Grill patties for 2-3 minutes per side for medium doneness. In the last minute, top each patty with a slice of American cheese and cover to melt.
Toast the buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly golden.
Spread mayonnaise on the bottom bun and ketchup on the top bun.
Assemble the burger: bottom bun, lettuce, 2 tomato slices, 2 pickle slices, onion rings, then stack two cheese-topped patties, and finally the top bun.
Repeat for the second burger. Serve immediately.
Tips
Use 80/20 ground beef for juicy patties; don't overwork the meat.
For extra flavor, add a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the patties before grilling.
Keep the burgers warm in a low oven while preparing the second one.
