Ingredients
2 beef patties (4 oz each, 80/20 ground beef)
2 slices American cheese
1 hamburger bun, split and toasted
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
1 teaspoon ketchup
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
2 dill pickle slices
2 tomato slices
2 lettuce leaves (iceberg or leaf)
1 slice red onion (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Season both patties generously with salt and pepper.
Cook patties in a skillet or on a griddle over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through.
During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on each patty and cover to melt.
Toast the bun halves on the skillet or in a toaster until lightly golden.
Spread mayonnaise on the top bun half, and ketchup and mustard on the bottom bun half.
On the bottom bun, layer lettuce, tomato, red onion (if using), and pickle slices.
Place one cheese-topped patty on the pickles, then the second patty on top.
Close with the top bun and serve immediately.
Tips
For extra flavor, season the patties with a pinch of garlic powder or onion powder.
To keep the burger juicy, avoid pressing down on the patties while cooking.
Assemble the burger just before serving to prevent the bun from getting soggy.
