Ingredients
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
Instructions
In a medium bowl, whisk together oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
Add cold butter cubes. Using a pastry blender or your fingertips, work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized butter pieces.
Use immediately or refrigerate until ready to top fruit filling. Sprinkle evenly over prepared fruit and bake as directed in your crisp recipe.
Tips
For extra crunch, add 1/4 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) to the topping.
Topping can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
Bake fruit crisps at 375°F (190°C) for 30-40 minutes until topping is golden and fruit is bubbly.
