Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup milk
1 pint vanilla gelato or ice cream
1/2 cup chopped hazelnuts or almonds
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
Instructions
In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt. Add melted butter, eggs, vanilla, and milk; whisk until smooth batter forms.
Heat a non-stick skillet or pizzelle iron over medium heat. Pour about 2 tablespoons batter and spread into a thin circle (6-inch diameter). Cook until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side.
Immediately remove the warm wafer and wrap it around a cone-shaped mold (or roll into a cone shape by hand). Hold until set. Repeat with remaining batter.
Place cones upright in a glass or cone stand to cool completely.
Melt chocolate chips in a microwave or double boiler. Dip the top edge of each cone into melted chocolate, then into chopped nuts. Let set on parchment paper.
Fill each cone with a scoop of vanilla gelato just before serving.
Tips
For extra crispiness, cool cones in a low oven (200°F) for 5 minutes.
Store unfilled cones in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Customize with your favorite toppings like sprinkles or crushed cookies.
