Ingredients
- 8 oz (225g) dried pasta (e.g., spaghetti or penne)
- 1 cup (200g) long-grain white rice
- Water (for boiling pasta and cooking rice)
- 1 tsp salt (for pasta water)
- 1 tbsp butter or olive oil (optional, for rice)
Instructions
- For pasta: Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tsp salt.
- Add pasta and cook according to package directions until al dente. Stir occasionally.
- Drain pasta in a colander. Do not rinse unless specified for cold salads.
- For rice: Rinse rice under cold water until water runs clear. Drain.
- In a saucepan, bring 2 cups water to a boil. Add rice and a pinch of salt. Optionally add butter or oil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18 minutes. Do not lift lid.
- Remove from heat and let stand covered for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork.
- Serve pasta and rice as desired.
