Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup warm milk (110°F)
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup bread flour (for dusting)
Instructions
In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt.
Add softened butter, warm milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, adding bread flour as needed, until smooth and elastic.
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Punch down dough and shape into a loaf for a bread pan or divide into 12 equal pieces for rolls. Place in greased pan or on baking sheet.
Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes until puffy.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake bread for 25-30 minutes (rolls for 15-18 minutes) until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 190°F.
Remove from oven, brush with melted butter if desired, and cool on a wire rack.
Tips
For a softer crust, brush with melted butter immediately after baking.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
To freeze, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and foil for up to 3 months.
