Ingredients
1 1/2 lbs ground beef (80/20)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
4 hamburger buns
4 slices cheddar cheese (optional)
4 leaves lettuce
4 slices tomato
4 slices red onion
ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise to taste
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined; do not overwork.
Divide mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties about 3/4-inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.
Preheat a grill, grill pan, or large skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the cooking surface.
Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side for medium, or until desired doneness. If adding cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover to melt.
During the last few minutes of cooking, toast the buns cut-side down on the grill or in a separate pan until lightly golden.
Assemble burgers: place patty on bottom bun, add lettuce, tomato, onion, and condiments of choice. Top with bun crown and serve immediately.
Tips
For best results, use 80/20 ground beef; leaner meat can result in dry burgers.
Let patties rest for 5 minutes after cooking to redistribute juices.
Customize with bacon, avocado, pickles, or your favorite toppings.
