Ingredients
2 1/2 oz (75 ml) London dry gin
1/2 oz (15 ml) dry vermouth
1 dash orange bitters (optional)
1 lemon twist or 1-2 green olives for garnish
Instructions
Chill a martini glass by filling it with ice water or placing it in the freezer for at least 10 minutes.
Fill a mixing glass or beaker with ice cubes.
Pour the gin, dry vermouth, and orange bitters (if using) over the ice.
Stir gently for about 30 seconds until well-chilled and diluted.
Discard the ice water from the martini glass and strain the mixture into the glass.
Express the lemon twist over the drink by twisting it to release oils, then drop it in, or garnish with olives on a cocktail pick.
Tips
For a drier martini, rinse the glass with vermouth instead of adding it to the mix.
Use a high-quality gin for best results.
Stirring, not shaking, preserves the clarity and texture.
