Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 large egg
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
3 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 12-cavity doughnut pan.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
In a separate bowl, whisk buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla until combined.
Pour wet ingredients into dry and stir just until no streaks of flour remain. Do not overmix.
Spoon batter into a piping bag or zip-top bag with corner snipped. Pipe batter into prepared doughnut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.
Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool in pan 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
For glaze: In a medium bowl, whisk powdered sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Dip top of each cooled doughnut into glaze, letting excess drip off. Place on rack to set.
Tips
If you don't have buttermilk, add 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice to regular milk and let sit 5 minutes.
Glaze will set in about 30 minutes. For a thicker glaze, add more powdered sugar.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
