Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp white pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together flour, salt, white pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and baking soda.
- In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg.
- Dip each chicken piece into the buttermilk mixture, then coat with the flour mixture. Place on a baking sheet.
- Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry nuggets in batches for 4-5 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through (internal temp 165°F).
- Drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauces.
Tips
- For extra crispy nuggets, double-dip: repeat the buttermilk and flour coating steps.
- Serve with ketchup, honey mustard, BBQ sauce, or sweet and sour sauce.
- Leftover nuggets can be reheated in an air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes.
