Ingredients
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 cup warm water (110°F)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup tomato sauce
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Instructions
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water; let stand until frothy, about 5 minutes.
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and olive oil; mix until dough comes together.
Knead dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled.
Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat.
Punch down dough and divide in half. On a floured surface, roll each half into a 12-inch circle.
Transfer dough to a floured pizza peel or parchment paper. Spread 1/4 cup tomato sauce on each, leaving a 1-inch border. Sprinkle oregano and garlic powder. Top with 1 cup mozzarella each.
Slide pizza onto preheated stone or baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
Remove from oven, top with fresh basil, slice, and serve hot.
Tips
For a crispier crust, preheat your baking sheet or pizza stone for at least 30 minutes.
Store leftover pizza in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in a 350°F oven.
Feel free to add toppings like pepperoni, mushrooms, or bell peppers before baking.
