Ingredients
- 1 lb pizza dough, store-bought or homemade
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup cooked ham, diced
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 cup marinara sauce, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, combine ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, ham, basil, salt, and pepper.
- Divide pizza dough into 4 equal pieces. On a floured surface, roll each piece into an 8-inch circle.
- Place 1/2 cup of filling on one half of each circle, leaving a 1-inch border.
- Fold the other half over the filling and press edges to seal. Crimp with a fork to ensure seal.
- Place calzones on prepared baking sheet. Brush tops with beaten egg. Cut a few small slits on top for steam to escape.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool for 5 minutes. Serve with warm marinara sauce.
Tips
- For a vegetarian version, substitute ham with sautéed spinach or mushrooms.
- Calzones can be refrigerated for up to 2 days; reheat in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes.
- Serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
