Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (80/20)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
4 slices American cheese
4 sesame seed hamburger buns
4 leaves iceberg lettuce
4 slices tomato
4 slices red onion
4 pickle slices
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp yellow mustard
1 tsp white vinegar
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp paprika
Instructions
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape into patties slightly larger than the buns (about 4.5 inches wide). Season both sides with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Grill or pan-fry the patties over medium-high heat for 4 minutes per side for medium doneness. In the last minute, top each patty with a slice of American cheese and cover to melt.
Toast the buns on the grill or in a skillet until lightly golden.
In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, vinegar, sugar, and paprika to make the special sauce.
Assemble each burger: spread special sauce on the bottom bun, add lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle slice, then the patty with cheese, and top bun.
Serve immediately.
Tips
Use 80/20 ground beef for the juiciest patty.
Let the patties rest for 2 minutes after cooking to retain juices.
Store leftover special sauce in the fridge for up to a week.
