Ingredients
12 oz ziti pasta
2 tbsp olive oil
1 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 tsp salt, divided
1/2 tsp black pepper, divided
1 small onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F. Cook ziti according to package directions until al dente; drain and set aside.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season chicken with 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper. Cook chicken until golden and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove chicken from skillet.
In the same skillet, add onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Add garlic and cook 1 minute more.
Stir in marinara sauce, heavy cream, remaining 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
Combine cooked ziti, chicken, and sauce in a large bowl. Transfer to a 9x13 inch baking dish. Top with mozzarella and Parmesan.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden. Let rest 5 minutes. Garnish with basil if desired.
Tips
For a spicier kick, add 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes with the garlic.
Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
Substitute ground beef or Italian sausage for the chicken if desired.
