Ingredients
6 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Bramley), peeled, cored, and sliced
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon lemon juice
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Transfer to a 9-inch square baking dish (or similar 2-quart dish).
In a separate bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt. Add cold butter cubes and use your fingertips or a pastry cutter to rub the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling around the edges.
Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm.
Tips
Serve with vanilla ice cream, custard, or whipped cream.
Leftover crumble can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat in the oven or microwave.
For extra crunch, add 1/4 cup chopped nuts (like walnuts or pecans) to the topping.
