Ingredients
1 baguette, sliced into 24 (1/2-inch) rounds
2 tablespoons olive oil
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup fresh chives, finely chopped
1/4 cup fresh dill, finely chopped
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
24 small fresh dill sprigs or chive pieces for garnish
Optional: smoked salmon, cucumber slices, or cherry tomato halves
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange baguette slices on a baking sheet and brush lightly with olive oil. Toast for 8-10 minutes until golden and crisp. Let cool.
In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, sour cream, lemon juice, chopped chives, chopped dill, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and well combined.
Spread about 1 teaspoon of the herbed cheese mixture onto each cooled baguette round.
Garnish each canapé with a small dill sprig or chive piece. If desired, top with a small piece of smoked salmon, a thin cucumber slice, or a cherry tomato half.
Arrange on a serving platter and serve immediately, or refrigerate for up to 2 hours before serving.
Tips
For make-ahead, prepare the herbed cheese mixture up to 2 days in advance and toast the baguette slices up to 1 day ahead. Assemble just before serving.
To keep canapés fresh, cover loosely with plastic wrap if refrigerating.
Experiment with different herbs like tarragon or basil for variety.
